The digital natives

Being connected on a 24/7 basis is a norm in our current times — indeed, a prerequisite for participation in society. As digital literacy will become a prime concern for the older generations, it will be Generation C who is supporting aging parents and grandparents with their technology expertise for the handling of home management systems and technology-assisted living. The generation gap opens up  unprecedented business opportunities for start-ups and other ingenious entrepreneurs among digital natives.

In parallel, the older groups continue to lag in the intensity of their digital behaviour. Generation C risks distancing itself further, particularly in the development of its own pervasive culture of communication. That culture has led observers to dub this group ‘the Silent Generation’, as digital communication channels have replaced the physical interaction embraced by prior generations.

What we are seeing is the emergence of a world of work, where people are embedded in increasingly more complex social and technological systems.
